I HEARD YOUR DOG DIED: Imaginings for Those Who Have Lost a Pet earns Ben Franklin book awards silver medal

Rambling Dog Publications and author Bonnie Kreitler recognized for excellence in publishing by Independent Book Publishers Association at 2017 awards ceremony

Southport, CT - April 7, 2017--I HEARD YOUR DOG DIED: Imaginings for Those Who Have Lost a Pet, a fictional tale about pet loss and the grief that follows, earned a Silver Medal award in the Body, Mind, Spirit category of the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) 2017 Ben Franklin Awards™ for excellence in publishing given out at the association's annual meeting held this year in Portland, OR.

"The story line in I Heard Your Dog Died is 'philosophical fiction' in the vein of Jonathan Livingston Seagull or The Little Prince," says author Bonnie Kreitler. After a car accident takes the life of the family dog as a youngster watches, conversations with a caring neighbor help the child through the trauma. As the pair explores the wrenching emotions of deep loss, the youngster follows suggestions that allow a shift from despair to acceptance and lead to a surprising conclusion neither neighbor imagined. The book's beautiful Zentangle®-style dog illustrations add a magical touch to the reading experience and support its invitation to imagine. "I'm deeply grateful that the award program judges recognized the book's contribution to the category of Body, Mind, Spirit literature."

This is the 29th year for IBPA's Ben Franklin Awards, given for excellence in publishing. This year's awards honored books published in 2016 in fifty-five categories. A judges panel of over 150 librarians, booksellers, designers, and editorial experts take 6 months to winnow almost 1400 entries to choose the honorees.

Kreitler began her career in publishing with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Time-Life Books while living in Virginia. After moving to Connecticut, she focused on writing and marketing services for the horse industry. Her book 50 CAREERS WITH HORSES! was a best seller in its niche. She returned to her publishing roots when she started Rambling Dog Publications with a mission to help animals help people. I HEARD YOUR DOG DIED is her first fiction work.
